Kevin Abstract is an American rapper, singer-songwriter, and director who rose to fame after the release of his critically-acclaimed debut solo studio album titled MTV1987 (2014). His subsequent albums titled American Boyfriend: A Suburban Love Story (2016) and Arizona Baby (2019) have also been positively reviewed. Apart from his solo albums, he has also released several EPs and mixtapes and is a founding member of Brockhampton, an alternative hip hop band that was initially founded as AliveSinceForever in Texas in 2010.

Kevin Abstract Facts

Kevin’s childhood was a traumatic phase in his life as he never met his father and was not close to his mother either.

He began writing and producing music at the age of 11 and left home when he was just 15. He survived by staying at a friend’s house for a while and then moved to Georgia where he lived with his sister.

After the release of his debut album MTV1987, he worked on the music video for the song Hell/Heroina using the amount of USD 3k that was raised by his fans via a Kickstarter campaign. The song was released in November 2014 which was preceded by a 24-hour live stream where Kevin interacted with his fans.

His 2nd album titled Death of a Supermodel was scheduled to be released in 2015. However, it was later discarded and Kevin switched to other projects.

He revealed in an interview that his stage name, Kevin Abstract, came about when he was 12 years old and in middle school. Some of his friends used to describe his music as ‘abstract’ and he combined that word with Kevin which was the name of one of his supposedly cool friends.
